“ADHD’ers are some of my favourite people”

Hello and welcome! I’m so glad you found this site.

You’ve likely landed here because you or someone close to you has been diagnosed with or exhibits signs of ADHD. You’ve come to the right place! The services I offer are based on an accurate understanding of ADHD and solutions are individually tailored to suit the strengths and challenges of the people with whom I work.

I became interested in ADHD many years ago, but I didn’t realize at the time that I had it myself. My Psychologist husband came to understand that he was diagnosable and when he told me about this, I said,

“I wish there was something to explain why I’m so weird”.

That statement was a reflection of long years of feeling like something was “off”, as if I was somehow not doing as well as my peers and thinking I should be doing better.

“Well my dear,” my husband replied, “perhaps you should reread the literature.” I took his advice and to my great surprise and relief I found myself in the pages I read. Finally, my lifelong struggles were starting to make sense. I was starting to make sense.

I’m not as typical as some ADHD’ers. I did pretty well in school. I wasn’t physically hyperactive. Teachers said I wasn’t staying on task and that I talked too much when I should have been focusing on my lessons, but I wasn’t problematic enough to merit a call home. I bumbled along somehow, always feeling like something wasn’t quite right.

With diagnosis in hand, I began to learn a lot more about ADHD, the intricacies of how it shows up in peoples’ lives, the mental health challenges that can sometimes run alongside and how best to approach and support people living with this condition. I came to understand not only what ADHD is but what it is not, which might be even more important.  See:  About ADHD

ADHD’ers are some of my favorite people. That’s why I’ve dedicated my working life to supporting you! We may be a bit “weird” but we’re also pretty inventive, curious and interesting and we all deserve a shot at growing into our best selves. I called my business the ADHD Garden for a specific reason. Every plot of land has those plants that are a bit unusual, that need careful tending and space to grow into what they were meant to be. So come and join me in the garden. Let’s dig around in the rich dirt and see what makes you thrive. There’s room for everyone here.

Deepest respect,

Joy
