About Me
I am a Registered Social Worker and have been in practice for over 25 years. For most of that time I have worked with individuals who have ADHD, from young children to seniors.
Initially my work life was in children’s mental health where I saw individuals and families in a variety of settings including day-school programs and residential treatment..
In addition I have worked in medical, employee assistance and private practice settings. This has given me the opportunity to work with a wide variety of individuals and problem areas. I enjoy working collaboratively with other experts in the field, including those who are able to make diagnoses, which offers clients the best possible experience.
I have worked hard to educate myself as to the nature of ADHD and keep up to date with emerging developments in the field as well as the best approaches for solving its challenges. Perhaps my greatest asset, however, is that I have ADHD myself. I know what it can feel and look like on a daily basis and I bring this experience to my work with clients.
In addition, I have developed expertise in dealing with many other issues that often overlap with ADHD such as anxiety, depression, family conflict and grief.
When I’m not working, I enjoy many creative pursuits such as writing, painting, cooking and photography. Walking in the woods or communing with a river are ways I restore my energy in addition to spending time with family and friends. And I love puzzles of all types!
“The thing is the human brain is extremely evolved for connection and relationship. You were never supposed to learn to be alone with pain and stress. Needing emotional safety and support isn’t something wrong with you — it’s the sign of something deeply right with you.” Allyson Dinneen
